Weekly Learning #3: Mocking with Jest 🎭

To preface: I first wrote this on Tuesday having just solved something, and needing to write it loosely somewhere. I ended up talking a bit more and it turned into a full-fledged post, so I’m keeping it and using it for this week. This is Mocking with Jest. I don’t know if this will form the basis of this weeks Weekly Learning, but I’ve just cracked something which I know has caused me issues before, and thought it best to write it down before I forget it.

Weekly Learning #2: AWS Certification ☁️

Making a second installment of this should be considered an achievement in itself, I think. I’m taking a break from the wider learning which will be talked about here to craft the second edition of my Weekly Learning notes. I detailed this a bit more in the first edition, from last week, so without further ado I’d like to talk about this weeks topic: AWS Certification. On Monday, I am sitting the AWS Certified Developer - Associate exam.

Weekly Learning #1: SQL Recursion 📚

To try to prove to myself, and everyone else, that I am serious about doing something with this site, I blocked out an hour of my calendar on a Friday afternoon to work on it. That hour started 53 minutes ago, and I’m only just starting. As mentioned before, I want to create a habit of documenting my learning. I intend to do this in conjunction with a new tracker I have been provided, which is for my own use.

Will this ever be used? 🤔

I sort of forgot about this. I didn’t, actually. It’s just never really served a purpose. The ‘project’ for which this was developed is effectively dead, with more emphasis being placed on actually using something which works, which is probably what it should’ve been from the beginning. I have, admittedly, missed out on a whole lot of documentation which may have been somewhat useful from my first year. It’s crazy to think it’s actually been a year (two weeks today!

The End of Roadside Payments...

Forgive me if the title seems just a little dramatic. This week, however, marked the end of my time on my first project at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, and with it a move to a new project (more on that later!). I think it is important to recognise this, and reflect on it, though. It is pretty crazy to think that today marks five months since my first day in Swansea, and so much has been done, been completed and been learnt since then.

Sheffield Varsity 2023

🟣 Last week, I travelled to my university city of Sheffield to help out with the annual Sheffield Varsity! 🤾 Varsity is an event which takes place in late March of each year, and features several fixtures in a variety of sports between Sheffield University and Sheffield Hallam University. There are many other similar Varsity events in other cities around the country at around the same time. 🧑‍🦯 I was lucky enough to play in the 2022 Sheffield Varsity Dodgeball fixture - an excellent contest which saw Hallam defeated 19-7.
